ARTIST STATEMENT: SUZY WEIR

“Weird new things made in nice old ways”. industrial bling 2001

Industrial bling is a micro brand that I created to embrace ancient methods of making jewellery. I studied industrial design at Pratt Institute, New York and the Royal Institute of Copenhagen receiving a BID; and at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia achieving a Master of Design where I was acquainted with traditional doctrines of design which continue to guide my work and sustain my enthusiasm.

For 25 years of jewellery making in Sydney, Australia, I have been working with noble metals and ethically source precious gemstones. Using techniques from the Bronze Age, I fashion these elements into original jewellery for him, her and them. 

I emigrated to Australia from New York and I am the granddaughter of survivors of the Armenian diaspora. Having these intrepid ancestors I’m drawn to human connections and in our cultural backgrounds. Industrial Bling is zealously fuelled by these connections and fascinated by your background.
