About Linda Jackson
Recent recipient of a 2021 Fashion Laureate Award, Linda has had a long career as Australia’s renown textile artist and fashion designer. A true pioneer of Australian Fashion and Textile Art. Linda studied fashion design and photography in Melbourne and in the late 1960’s left Australia to live in New Guinea and travel through Asia to Paris and London.
Returning to Sydney in 1973 Linda met Jenny Kee and together staged the Flamingo Park fashion parades that became famous for their energetic amalgamation of art, fashion and music.
Jackson’s label- “Bush Couture” was launched in 1982 from the new studio in Kings Cross. In 1992, Linda relocated to Arnhem land in the NT and travelled while working in Indigenous communities, managing art projects and continuing painting and exhibiting her art and textiles in private and regional Galleries.
In 2012 Linda Jackson celebrated her iconic designs with a hugely successful “Bush Couture” exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria.
Linda collaborated with Romance was Born on the hugely successful “Cooee Couture” collection. Inspired by the raw beauty of opals, the Australian landscape and wildflowers hand-painted and printed by Linda and staged at the Art Gallery of NSW as part of Fashion Week in 2016.
AGSA Adelaide opens “Linda Jackson and Utopia” in 2017 which features Linda’s collaboration with Utopia women artists.
“Step into Paradise” a major retrospective with Jenny Kee was launched in October 2019 at Powerhouse Ultimo in Sydney.
