Based in New Delhi, Subdoh Gupta is best known for incorporating everyday objects ubiquitous throughout India in his body of work, which includes sculpture, installation, painting, performance and video. Thali pans, stainless steel tiffin boxes, milk pails and cooking equipment are just a part of the wide assortment of ordinary items Gupta appropriates in his consideration of Indias wild economic growth and burgeoning materialism, yet these also relate to his own memories and childhood. In the creative process, the objects meaning and function are dissolved, transforming them into artworks that are globally legible while expressing the dichotomy of order and chaos coexistent today.
